Domestic violence simply means an unfair and unfriendly treatment to a partner by her partner in a relationship. Domestic violence law entertains issues related to family and abuse of one partner by another in a relationship. The abuse in question here is not limited to physical abuse alone like the beating of a partner. The abuse can also be emotional abuse or mental abuse. This law is also found as a subset of family law sometimes. This is a very vital legal process in the world and its relevance can never be over-emphasized.
The importance attached to this law is the main reason why there is the enactment of domestic violence on women in Violence Against Women Act abbreviated as VAWA.
Legal practitioners who specialize in this area of the profession are called domestic violence lawyers.
There are a good number of reasons that make domestic violence occurs. Some of them are
1. Denial of sexual pleasure: Having sex with your partner in a relationship is your right. When a wife, for instance, denies her wife of sex, this may lead to domestic violence in as much as he's asking for his right. A wife should always be ready to satisfy the sexual desires of her husband. If this is not done it may lead to domestic violence in the sense that the husband may decide to forcefully have sex with his wife which is called rape in marriage.
2. Maltreatment to partner: Maltreatment could be in form of denying your spouse of her basic rights. There are at least three basic rights that you as the husband must fulfill to your wife regularly. These are food, clothing, and shelter. You must make provision for what your wife will eat as she must not complain hunger. You should make provision for her wears as she must not complain of lacking. She also must be provided with where to sleep. If any or all of these could not be met, the wife can simply get a domestic violence lawyer to file a case.
3. Beating of one's spouse: This, of course, is the most annoying aspect of domestic violence. It's always highly disappointing to see a husband beating his wife just for a mere little misunderstanding. Some husbands are surprisingly fond of that. They turn their wives into punching bags. Someone you claim you love, no matter what transpires between the two of you, resorting to resolve the issue by beating your wife is just an unwise and irresponsible idea.
There are more responsible and more civilized ways of conflict resolution rather than beating up your wife. You can dialogue with your wife to resolve the issue and if you think that won't work for her you can consult your domestic violence lawyer to counsel her and give you both legal advice. That way is a more conservative measure of conflict resolution so that it won't turn to domestic violence.
If you feel you are suffering from domestic violence as a wife, don't suffer in silence. Communicate your suffering to a domestic violence lawyer to fight for your right.
